So as we all know on the “Third day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, Three French Hens”. Again, more birds. You got partridges, doves, and now hens (and more to come). I dunno, call me crazy but to me good Christmas gifts don’t include things you have to feed, clean up after, and build coops for. At least the hens make themselves useful by laying eggs.
The lyrics should have been, “On the Third Bird-day of Christmas my bird fixated stalker gave to me…” And what is a French Hen? Do the hens know they are french? If they are born in Canada, are they French Canadian hens? Do they have accents, wear berets, and eat fancy pastries? Do they look like this:
Or are they a little more aristocratic and look like this:
Whatever they look like, something has got to be changed otherwise you’ll be overrun by birds before the end of the song. Since your true love won’t stop buying you birds, I’ll send some help.
On the Third Day of Christmas Flippity Trippity gave to me, Three French Men
French Man #1: Mario Lemieux
He’s a hall of famer hockey player so you know he’s in shape, he’s got great work ethics, and an egg is like a puck so you know he won’t break any when he’s fetching your breakfast in the morning.
Mario Lemieux Black Reebok Heroes of Hockey Pittsburgh Penguins Jersey
French Man #2: Gerard Depardieu
The thoughtful French man from Green Card also has some mad sword play skills as seen in Cyrano so he can protect the birds from any foxes or coyotes.
French Man #3: Chef Anthony Bourdain
Sure he was born in America, but the star of No Reservations has his ancestry rooted in France which qualifies him to be French Man #3 on my list. The reason for this pick is probably obvious, he’s a chef and with so many birds around, you’ll be thanking me for sending you a French Chef. Plus he’s a darn fine writer and a funny guy.
Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations – Collections One-Four
And the book that started it all and a really great read.

Twelve Days of Christmas – On the Second Day of Christmas

Here we are, one down, 11 days of celebration to go in the Flippity Trippity version of the holiday classic, Twelve days of Christmas.
As the story goes, on the second day of Christmas, this sugar daddy, or sugar momma, or even this Daddy Warbuck type of character gives their true love Two Turtle Doves to go with the Partridge in a Pear Tree on day one. Is it me, or does this person have a bird fixation? Maybe a gift card to a bird store would be better. I mean, what can you do with Turtle Doves other than feed them and clean up their droppings. At least a parrot would be entertaining.
I don’t like it, so I’m going to change it to something more practical.
On the Second Day of Christmas Flippity Trippity gave to me
two Turtle Ninja’s and Dove
and The Partridges with a Pear Tree.
See, already my gifts are better than the original version and we’re only on day 2.

Yes it’s been said, many times, many ways, but I’m going to retell the Twelve Days of Christmas anyhow. But before I begin I need to ask a quick question. Who wouldn’t want to be the friend, neighbor, spouse, child, or parent of this celebratory person? I mean 12 days of Christmas! I’m a guy who knows how to party but a twelve day bender makes me look like a rookie. Think of the gifts! Sure they may mostly be odd, archaic, and annoying presents, but it’s the thought that counts.
Then again, maybe it wouldn’t be a good thing knowing this person. Perhaps the first few years of an almost two week long Christmas celebration might seem fun, but after the 10th one you might be praying for death by egg nog, beat yourself silly with a stale fruitcake, or hang yourself instead of mistletoe.
So without further ado…
On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, a Partridge in a Pear tree, well actually six Partridges, a lazy dog, and a creepy “uncle” who skipped this photo shoot. And they weren’t actually in a pear tree so I’m going it’s more like – On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me, The Partridges and a Pear tree.

Memories of Sledding

I guess this is as good a time as any to do an update since Christmas is knocking at the doorsteps.
As a kid I loved Christmas for the anticipation of Santa sliding down my chimney with a bag of toys and underwear. Now as my hair slowly matches the color of snow, the mysticism of Christmas is gone, but the joy remains thanks to being able to share the holidays with dear family and friends.
One of my favorite things to do during the winter holidays was toboggan. Nothing says I’m a kid, I’m indestructible, and I don’t care that it’s below freezing outside like riding a sled down a snow covered hill at breakneck speeds. I haven’t sled in years, but I imagine it was as fast as I remember just as the hills don’t seem so high. Nonetheless, it felt like I was a professional bobsledder racing for Olympic gold.
And the great thing about sledding was that afterwards you’d go inside, get warm and dry, and there was hot chocolate waiting for you. Now I skip the sledding and just go straight to the hot chocolate. But who knows, maybe this year I might grab that dusty sled from my parent’s garage and relive some of those wonderful winter days.

It’s Wednesday and something smells “off”. Oh yeah, it’s the pile of growing garbage in the garage that was supposed to go out yesterday but I forgot Tuesday is garbage day once again. If you are anything like me, then occasionally the little details of life are forgotten and get less attention then they deserve. Perhaps there is a little help available in the form of these magnets. Not only do they help remind you of garbage and recycling days, but also of other little things such as diapers, bread, milk, or if you have clean or dirty dishes in the dishwasher.

Elizabeth is the artist behind Sweet Tooth Studio and resides in Toronto, Canada. Her work mainly revolves around all things sweet and cute, but occasionally she delves into super-cute, awesomely cute, and amazingly cute designs. There’s a “Kawaii” element to some of her work, but her originality also shows through which sets her apart from other “cute” artists.

Pop art ironically, is not like “pop culture”, it doesn’t go in and out of style, but always seems relevant. Claire, in her own words, is “a mum of 4 first and foremost and also a jewellery maker, poet, artist and a general creative soup. I’m a huge fan of the altered art and popart genres and source images to use in designs from charity shop books, junk shop finds and web research…” Her work with images often finds balance between cute and witty.
